Hunter Valley wedding photography, from someone who works the valley

The Hunter is not one place — it is a valley of small differences that decide how your photographs look. Pokolbin sits in the open with the Brokenback Range as a permanent backdrop. Lovedale faces the Mount View ridgeline. Rothbury and Broke run quieter and greener. Each has its own light in the last hour, and each venue has its own way of moving a wedding day through it.

I photograph Hunter Valley weddings the way I photograph the coast — documentary, unposed, and built around the light rather than the shot list. Every package includes all images from your day, a fully edited online gallery, highlights in colour and black & white, and a slideshow of your favourites, delivered within 48 hours. See the wedding photography packages for what each one covers, or read the in-depth Hunter Valley guide on seasons, venues and vineyard light.

Ceremony between the vines · Pokolbin

A ceremony in the open with the Brokenback Range behind the guests — the reason so many Hunter weddings are planned around the last hour of light.

  • No travel fees — the whole valley, and the rest of NSW, is included in every package.
  • Venue knowledge — I know where the sun drops at Peppers Creek, where the wind hits at Bimbadgen, and which barn holds light after dark.
  • 48-hour galleries — most Hunter Valley galleries are edited and delivered within two days of the wedding.
  • Weather planned for — a documented wet-weather plan for outdoor ceremonies, because the valley's weather turns.

Timing changes everything

When to marry in the Hunter Valley

Four seasons, four different weddings. What the valley actually does, month by month.

Summer

December – February

Sunset lands near 8pm, so ceremonies are usually pushed to 4pm or later. Heat is the real constraint — an unshaded 2pm ceremony in Pokolbin can hit 38°C, and the southerly buster arrives with no warning. When it does, we use it: dark clouds over the ranges make the best portraits of the year.

Autumn

March – May

The best light and the most forgiving weather the valley gets. Vines turn gold and rust, the light is low and warm from mid-afternoon, and the crowds thin out once grape harvest finishes. If you have a free choice of date, choose here.

Winter

June – August

Dark by 5pm, so coverage hours go further — a six-hour package covers most of a winter day. Fog sitting in the valley at dawn is genuinely spectacular, and fireplaces and cellar-door receptions suit the season. Cold-weather portraits need a plan and a coat between frames.

Spring

September – November

Green vines, new growth and long evenings again. It is also the most unpredictable season in the Hunter — a 30°C Saturday and a wet 15°C one can sit a week apart. Build a wet-weather plan into the day rather than hoping.
